Horrible experience which says a lot about the current housing crisis in Maastricht. Imagine this you’re a first year student that hoped getting a room through a so called official website would help but when the day comes and actually move in there is absolutely no furniture, of course you’re just happy to have a room so you move on. Then you go into the kitchen and see that there is no stove, no oven and no fridge, the “kitchen” is just some cabinets and a sink, that’s it. As a law student I’m not even sure you can advertise that as a kitchen. So yeah, I’m a first year student that had to rent a room through an “official” website which is basically the wild west, there were no pictures, I had blindly trust myself in the website, you apparently can view the room but let’s be honest how many international students can do that? I arrived to an empty room, empty kitchen, with no internet and that’s located far away from my faculty, all that mostly because when you look at rentals on a website for STUDENTS you expect to have the basic necessities, but apparently that’s not the case. The fact that as a student, especially a first year international student, I’m expected to arrange gas and internet contracts as well as to pay for the kitchen equipment is unheard of to me, I come from a pretty bad country and even there they have the decency to at least give you a stove and a fridge. Next time I’m taking my chances on fb marketplace.
