about Heerderweg 96 20 June 2016

This email was sent to info@maastrichthousing.com as well (which included pictures) To whom it may concern, (Though, by all appearances, Heerderweg 96 seems to concern NO ONE). Some weeks back, we sighted a flat on Maastricht Housing, offered by Servatius. As we are presently living in Berlin, and five family members (not just the one), are in the process of moving, it was not possible to shuttle back and forth to Maastricht for viewings. That didnt really seem necessary anyway, because the flat advertised on Maastricht Housing looked like something out of ELLE nl Deocorating!? That the room, would not look that smart, was a givenit stated quite clearly that the pictures were only an example of what could be done with the space. However, the pictures were more than misleading! And they were likely taken shortly after the building was completed, years ago. Thats all cosmetics, and can be corrected with a coat of paint and a trip to IKEA. However, removing the green wallpaper from a wall that had never seen primer was going to prove more difficult. Also, the plumber needed to take a look at the sink in the room, stinking of raw sewage and blocked. Rent had been paid since the 15th of May, key in your possession. I understand, that when students are getting close to either finishing their studies, or are just thrilled that summer holidays are nearing, they can get a little overzealousparties, clearing out flats, no time to cook, (hence pizza boxes everywhere). The fun ends, when entire watermelons are tossed from roof-top flats, along with debris from balconies, and later, we witnessed the throwing of glass bottles onto the car park, bicycle standsand passers by!? Unfortunately, there was no contact person or phone numberin the event of But back to the flat, where my daughter (Karen Sturm) was so distraught about the shocking facilities, that were to become her new long-term home. The separate hall-entry-way, that led to the four apartments in this particular wing, had one functioning light bulb, was filled with a mixed collection of someones unwanted art work, kitchen utensils, vacuum cleaners and assorted rubbish. All good, its year-end, and these are students AND rubbish, seems to be a general problem for this facility! The common toilet was dirty, with a trash bin, whose contents were spilling onto the floor, but at least there was a toilet cleaning brush handy, AGAINtheyre students, right? The common shower was much the same. Use at your own risk, and always wear flip-flops when entering. Now to the kitchen. That my daughter was in tears was of little surprise, after all, shes a human beingnot a pig! Indescribable filth! but rest assured, I will be in touch with the Inspectie voor de Gzondsheidszorg. I have attached photos, but perhaps it would be wise to occasionally view your own propertiesor at the very least, have an agent view the entirety of the flats prior to the arrival of a new tenant. The appliances must be from the early 80s? The stovetop, encrusted in a years, (perhaps two?) of food remains, of which two of the three elements functioned. The refrigerator, which was taped shut, hissing and werring and had liquid seeping out the bottom. I didnt have the stomach to try and open it, in fear of what Id find inside. The sink countertop, dislodged from the back wall mounting, a breeding ground for moldwhich came oozing out, as I tried to wash off the area. Four cms of food remnants, on the floor between the stove and fridge. Rubbish everywhere, some even in trash bags!?unfortunately not closed. EVERYTHING covered in a thick coat of grease and grime, everything. On top of the grease, a furry coat of dust, (likely because the ventilation system doesnt function, ANYWHERE! If you didnt move fast in the kitchen, your shoes would remain affixed to the floor. There were month old hamburger patties on the balcony floor, bags of rubbish, old furniture and a discarded BBQ, (those were the things NOT moving!). Upon speaking to another tenant in this quadrant, it was clear he'd given up after months of trying to keep things clean. He purchased a refrigerator and hot plate for his room, and suggested Karen do the same. We're paying for, "room with communal kitchen and WC/shower". Upon visiting your very posh offices on Friday, (before 12:00 oclock) in the hopes of speaking to someone about these unacceptable conditions, we listened to your receptionist, who was actually making a concerted effort to find someone, ANYONE, in a position of authority. She found no one. Kind regards, Shirley Smith and Karen Sturm (current tennent)
