The housing Room, VOLKSPLEIN 71 scored, on average, 0 stars based on 1 reviews by our Maastrichthousing students.
In general the housing at Volksplein is good, it is not overcrowded as there are only 4-5 people per flat. There are two toilets, as well as a washing machine and a tumble dryer which is great. However, over the space of 10 months the porperty has had many issues. For the first 5 months we had a reocurring problem with the boiler whereby we had no heating nor hot water. This was during winter period and so it was a serious issue. At one point I ended up being very ill as we had no water for the entire weekend and had to boil the kettle and put hot water into a pan to then shower, rinse, and so on. We were told to reset the boiler which, when you are paying on average 550 euros for a room, SHOULD NOT be the case. Most of the time though, the door leading to the boiler was kept locked so we couldnt access the resit button. At one point we were left without water, heating and electricity and had to wait in the dark for hours before someone arrived to solve the issue. Another issue we had was the fact that our kettle kept cutting out the electric so we couldnt use it any more. We told of the problem but the guesthouse failed to bring us a new electric kettle, we were given one of those stove ones which is super INCONVENIENT. When it came to cleaning, it was done poorly. The toilets were cleaned but rarely and the amount of toilet role provided never lasted until the next time the cleaners were in. The cleaning was also very limited, to the toilet only. I dont think there would be a problem in cleaning the stove and the floor in the kitchen. This is because we dont have all the neccessary cleaning substances to do so. Also, the cleaning fee is rediculously high for no reason as it is not even that good. Lastly, in the first semester there was a huge bike problem as there were too many bikes that were not being used and blocking the way for those people who actually have bikes to put them in the storage. And, also my flatmates bike went missing so the building is very easy to enter by random people if doors arent closed properly. However, on the bright side the flat was in fact a great place to live in. All the problems I have metioned are fixable and have, to an extent been fixed. There are still some issues with the internet and shower drain becoming blocked. I do love the big size of the rooms, although a larger mirror would be better as this is what is advertised on the website.
